I’ve been thinking about what I know about using EFT and other forms of Meridian Tapping for FOOD CRAVINGS. It’s a lot. But up until now tapping hasn’t been applied very often to this problem, compared to all its other uses.
WHY IS THIS?
This is a very interesting question.
Let’s recap what we know…
Over the years, we have seen hundreds of people look at and even hold in their hands, foods that for them triggered an irresistible urge to eat those foods–– and then we’ve seen them tap on the special tapping spots and say certain phrases out loud, and the craving goes away! It just disappears… When we are working with an individual or a group, we’ll get this disappearance of the craving in about 90% of the people we work with which is really quite an amazing effect. In a workshop we see the audience overwhelmed at the change they feel immediately, and they realize that tapping is powerful! (I've done this in workshops for cravings for both chocolate and wine and it's always satisfying to see how people respond - the most common response being that it no longer looks, smells or tastes so nice; even tastes rather horrible - no thanks, I don't really want to eat/drink that now!)
The only problem with this superb method for eliminating food cravings has been getting people to use it on their own.
It’s not easy to buy a bunch of your own favorite foods and keep them in the house and systematically tap while looking at them, without eating them while you do that – most dieting plans advise you not to stock your Downfall foods in the house because it’s so hard to resist eating them. And that’s very sensible advice.
The problem is that to tap on themselves without the supervision of a practitioner or group leader, the person using it has to do several things:
• They have to find it easy to do or they just won’t bother.
• They have to be able to do the process quickly, there is often no time for a full Tapping Session.
• They need to find it FUN to do, or they won’t WANT to do it.
So, the Question is:
How can we help people overcome the above limitations so that Meridian Tapping becomes USEFUL to them when they are on their own?
That was the question that Dr. Pat Carrington and her expert consultants on weight loss through Meridian Tapping – Doctors Carol Look and Sandra Radomski – considered when discussing this problem a couple of years ago.
These practitioners wanted to find out how they could help people apply the amazing appetite control method, Meridian Tapping, by themselves, without the supervision of a practitioner or a group leader.
They decided that the prerequisites for a successful do-it-yourself method of applying it for this purpose will be that:
• The person finds the tapping process very easy to do in connection with eating, otherwise they won’t bother to do it.
• They be given a rapid and systematic way of applying the tapping process.
• They experience tapping for food cravings as fun and feel really GOOD when they use the method –– otherwise they won’t be motivated to continue using it.
• They have access to a support system to help them keep on using it –weight control programs are much more effective when there’s a social network that supports them.
But NONE of these things had been supplied for people up until that point in time.
