Festive Greetings to all who visit here :-)

Hi everyone,

Well I don't know where December went and this is a flying visit before getting so many other things finished.

I would like to wish you all a very happy festive season, in whichever way you celebrate it, and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

May Love, Light and Blessings be yours at this special time of year.

This card was made with Serif DSA2 and used images from the Daisytrail Kit "Yuletide Joy" and Truly Tango's "Christmas" Kit. The snowy Stonehenge image in the background is by Matt Banks, from www.freedigitalphotos.net.

EFT Tapping for Feelings of Overwhelm

Hi Everyone,

The Festive Season rushes ever closer; there are so many things that should be done for work; where is the time to just rest and have a bit of fun?

Does this sound familiar?

Looking back over this year I've come to realize that I have spent quite a lot of it in a state of overwhelm. So much to do, working too many hours in the garden; working too many hours on the computer; trying hard to keep on top of things and stay ahead. The first half of the year found me overwhelmed by a stressful situation, now thankfully resolved.

The feeling of overwhelm is one of feeling totally submerged by what goes on around you, being engulfed and out of control. The brain goes into hamster wheel mode, and you just keep trundling away in the same old rut, unable to see any way out.

Although the festive month of December is one to look forward to, it is also a period of stress and overwhelm for many. So this year, you might perhaps like to try using EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to tap away at any feelings of overwhelm, and to truly get ahead of the game.

For details of how to tap please go to my EFT Self-Help page.

So tapping on the Karate Chop point (KC) (and taking full responsibility for yourself)

Even though I feel so overwhelmed right now, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Even though I feel so overwhelmed, there is so much to do, and so little time to get it done, I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself.

Even though I feel as if I am floundering, submerged beneath the weight of all I really ought to get done, keeping up to date with work, getting the shopping done for Christmas, looking after my family, basically keeping all the plates of my life spinning, I deeply and completely accept who I am, and how I feel.

EB: feel so overwhelmed
SE:so much to do
UE:so little time
UN: I can never get this all done
CH:all this work
CB:getting ready for Christmas
UA:keeping these plates spinning
TH: feel so tired

EB:wearing myself out
SE: feeling SO overwhelmed by it all
UE:never-ending hamster wheel
UN:so stressing
CH: how can I possibly get it all done?
CB:just want it all to stop
UA:this feeling of overwhelm
TH:this feeling of being submerged, drowning in all that I must do

EB:what if I consider that I don't have to do it all right now?
SE: what if I can allow myself a breathing space?
UE:what if I choose to see that I'm not Super(wo)man?
UN:what if I take time to prioritise my "To Do" List?
CH:I can choose to do all this
CB:I don't have to run around in the hamster wheel
UA:I can get off any time I want
TH:I can allow myself to see that much of this is self-imposed

EB: No-one is forcing me to get these things done, right now!
SE: I can forgive myself for being such a hard task-master/mistress
UE: I can take a few moments to stop, relax and nurture myself
UN: I can choose to do things that are fun and enjoyable
CH: Knowing that I can return to my tasks feeling happier and refreshed
CB: I choose to pace myself
UA: I choose to forgive myself
TH: I choose to allow myself to get things done in their own good time

Stop and take a deep breath, and perhaps a glass of water too. How do you feel now? This is rather generalized and you might find that your tapping phrases are different, depending upon what is pertinent to you. If anything else comes up, then tap on that too, until you feel a sense of peace with yourself.

This last weekend I did choose to step off the hamster wheel. We had my niece and nephew around for the day, and while my nephew spent the time with my husband on the PC, my niece spent time with me and we had a play day, making up some digital scrap pages and cards with my DSA2 Digital Scrap Artist programme. She was delighted to get feedback from the Daisytrail forum when we uploaded her efforts and I derived great joy from her joy.

The time fled by, five hours gone just like that, but five quality hours that refreshed and revived. Today I feel more motivated and able to shoulder the tasks once more, such as posting this blog entry, and my "To Do" list has been severely pruned.

We can indeed be our own worst enemy, our severest task masters, when all we really need to be is kinder to ourselves and let life flow.

So don't let "overwhelm" overwhelm you; try tapping it away.

Bright Blessings,
Karen

Delighted to be Interviewed by Jessica Ortner for the Tapping Insiders Club!

Hi everyone,

A few days after I got back from the chill-out Scottish holiday I was surprised to find an email waiting for me inquiring, out of the blue, if I would like to be interviewed by Jessica Ortner, from the Tapping Insiders Club (and the Tapping Solution DVD people) on the topic of the use of EFT for  menopause.

I read it three times, trying to figure out where the leg-pull was, decided it was for real, picked myself and my jaw off the floor, and emailed right back saying "Yes."

A few days went by with nothing coming back and I was still trying to figure out if someone was winding me up when I got a reply, and after a little to-ing and fro-ing, not helped by me being useless at calculating different time zones, the interview was set for Friday 8th October at 6.00pm UK time.

I thought I would be quite anxious, as this was a totally new experience for me. Jessica has interviewed well-known EFT experts such as Carol Look, Brad Yates, Pamela Bruner, Margaret Lynch, Steve Wells, Dr Alex Lees and Dr Pat Carrington, amongst others; let's face it, I'm not exactly in that league.

As it happened I only got a bit anxious about 10 minutes before the phone was due to ring, so a little tapping was in order, mainly along the lines I hoped I didn't make a right muppet of myself. :-) I needn't have worried; Jessica is a lovely lady and soon put me totally at ease.

Unfortunately, we couldn't do much because the recording sound quality just wasn't up to scratch. Three attempts to try and sort it, including moving to Skype, didn't work so we had to decide to drop it and re-schedule. Apart from a slight sense of frustration, I felt really quite happy about it all, despite the glitches.

Take Two occurred on Friday 15th at 6.00pm. I had requested some Reiki Distant Healing from the Reiki group to hopefully lift the vibes for a good strong telephone connection (sounds very odd, perhaps, but technology and I have a love/hate relationship, and you might be surprised at how often, after getting rather frustrated, I've taken time out for a little Reiki meditation and things have started to work hunky-dory!). I had done some tapping on the lines of: Even though last time was most frustrating because the connection wasn't good enough to record, and I'm worried it will happen again, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, and allow for a perfect result.

This time, it all went well, with a crystal clear connection. Jessica asked me some questions about the commonest problems women with menopause symptoms wanted help with (hot flushes / flashes, night sweats and insomnia) and we talked a little about the current attitudes and beliefs around menopause, fostered by the media and the medicalisation of this really natural process. We finished by going through an EFT tap-along for hot flushes and night sweats.

I really enjoyed the whole experience, and it goes to show that even when you get to that certain time in your life, you can still be up for new challenges. I've always had a very positive outlook on what the menopause process means for me, and as I near the big 50 I find I'm actually far more confident and happy in myself than at any other time. As we said in the interview, regular use of EFT can help keep the physical symptoms at bay because you can work on any underlying stresses that can trigger hormonal imbalances that then influence the physical body, so it is a perfect maintenance tool.

Unlike HRT, EFT has no nasty side-effects and is ever present, to be used on the spot when needed, literally at your fingertips.

You can hear the interview "Tapping for Menopause with Karen Lewis" at the Tapping Insiders Club. This is a membership site but you can try it out for a whole month at just $27. When you see the wealth of videos and interviews covering a whole range of topics - health - physical, emotional and mental; parent/child relationships; phobias; self-development; weight; finances; etc., I think you will find that it is excellent value and a great resource.

Should you want a copy of the EFT tap-along for hot flushes and night sweats you can find that on my website - http:/www.eft-not-hrt.com/.

2011 AAMET EFT Gathering, Ilkley, West Yorkshire

Hi everyone,

I have just got around to registering to attend the 2011 EFT Northern Gathering to be held on the weekend of the 28th and 29th January, in Ilkley, West Yorkshire at the Craiglands Hotel.

This will be the third year for this event, and as the EFT Events website states, the weekend provides "two inspiring days for the European EFT tapping community plus whole day specialist workshops. Come and enjoy presentations, demonstrations, networking, tapping and sharing ideas."

This is the first time that I have been able to attend, and I am really looking forward to it, although there is a slight feeling of trepidation as I am also giving one of the presentations on the Sunday morning, on the use of EFT for Menopause, another first for me.

You can find more details of all the presenters and presentations here,  and make a booking if you are interested. Additional workshops are being held on the bracketing Friday and Monday and there looks to be quite a diversity of topics that will be covered.

If I need to, I could pick up some tips from Sean Grey on using EFT for performing anxiety (:-)); Claire Hayes' presentation on Autism Parent Support should be of interest as I work with people with autism; Frances Goodall's presentation - CFS/ME Spiritual Emergency might provide some useful hints for dealing with fibromyalgia as I know a few people who suffer from this complaint, which is similar to CFS; these are just some of the presentations on offer.

It all looks like excellent value and a full weekend of EFT tapping should be just the ticket. Certainly the feedback from last year sounds good, and I know some people who attended and gave presentations, who have all said what a great time it was for all concerned.

So perhaps I might see some of you there. :-)

Stop the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive - Sign the petition

Hi everyone,

I had a newsletter arrive in my inbox this evening, asking for help to save our right to access to medicinal herbs, and other natural supplements. Heidi Stevenson of Gaia-Health.com has set up a petition which you can view here.

Bearing in mind that these gentle natural therapies, if applied correctly, actually have fewer adverse side effects than most modern drugs, (and the fact that insurance to practice is relatively inexpensive, reflecting this safety factor) it seems only fair that we should retain the choice of how our bodies are treated, and what goes into them.

If you are interested in preserving our rights to choose the way we look after our health, especially if we prefer the natural route over the allopathic route (and the experiences of my family and me with doctors and the 'blessings' of modern medicine leaves me very jaundiced and cynical indeed!) then please consider hopping over to have a look and to add your signature to the petition.

Vitamin D and Autism

Hi everyone,

A recent newsletter from Dr John Cannell from the Vitamin D council site made for very interesting reading, about using vitamin D in therapeutic doses for a three and a half year old child with autism - it seems to have had a very marked positive effect. (Yet Another Autism Case Report)There are other articles in the archive and I post links here if anyone wants to go and have a look at them.

Autism Information
More Letters on Autism
New Harvard Paper on Autism
Vitamin D Theory of Autism
A Mother, Her Autistic Son, and Vitamin D
The Tragedy of Autism and the Promise of Vitamin D

This might seem an odd topic to post on here,  an AKOE (All Kinds of Everything) one, but part of my work is carrying out aromatherapy sessions on adults with learning disabilities. Quite a number of my clients have varying degrees of autism. And from previous posts (here, here and here ) it can be seen that I have quite an interest in vitamin D; in fact, thinking about it, we're probably due for another re-test about now. So, together, they catch my eye.

I can appreciate that it is not straight forward and simple, dealing with autism, and there can be many complex factors contributing towards the cause. But it appears that the use of vitamin D in much higher doses than we are used to considering can make considerable inroads into turning around some cases. It is inexpensive, and as long as the child is monitored for its vitamin D status to ensure correct dosage to achieve adequate 25(0)HD levels it also seems quite safe. And what other options are there, in many cases?

But then, simple and inexpensive interventions don't make for big bucks for the pharmaceutical industry, I suppose, so they prefer the benefits of vitamin D to be kept as quiet as possible (or is that me being a tad too cynical again?).

If even a few children can make a 'recovery' from autism by the means of simple supplementation, for them and their families it can be life changing. Surely that should be the prime motivation, and if there are those who say it can't work, then let further research be carried out to put this theory to the test. Besides, the raft of research surfacing recently suggests that vitamin D deficiency can lead to all kinds of other health issues so ensuring adequate supplies can surely only be a good thing?

The people I work with may not benefit from such an intervention as they are much older, but it does make me wonder if their vitamin D levels were checked, and probably found deficient, and supplementation took place to bring them up into the 70 - 100ng/mL (or even up to 150ng/mL from what I read) if it would not have some positive effect on them as well?

EFT Tapping for PHB (Post Holiday Blues)

Hi everyone,

It's been quite a while since my last posting but a theme of this year appears to be starting projects that take FAR longer than I thought to complete, leaving me with less time for other things.

The garden was the first one earlier in the year. It doesn't look too bad at the moment but there is still a bit of work to do, but that can wait a little longer when plants start to die off for the winter. I don't like to be too tidy over the autumn/winter months as I think it is important to leave habitats available for the wildlife to over-winter.

The other major project I undertook was to revamp my websites, www.EFT-Reiki.com and www.EFT-not-HRT.com. I had received the updated Serif WebPlus X4 programme and thought it should be a doddle to just transfer the site details into new look sites. Well, the programme is great to work with - it has to be straight forward and easy for me to use it, but somehow it took me a lot longer to get things done. I also recently bought the Serif Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 programme and was using that for some of the elements of design for the new sites. It took a great deal of self-will not to just wander off and play with that. What took the additional time is that I had to add some extra pages to the main site as I am now offering mp3 audio downloads of Ambient Nature Sounds for relaxation, meditation or work / therapy rooms background, and also free EFT tap-along scripts and audio downloads.

Anyway, all of this took quite a few weeks to do, finally finishing two days before our two week holiday in Scotland. The day before we left was a bit hectic, getting everything sorted, collecting the glider in its trailer and packing. At least this year we got away without any of the stresses of last year's holiday (Selene being diagnosed with a lymphoma 2 days before the holiday; petrol in the car's diesel tank; husband not sure if he was going to be made redundant; not having all the glider bits, etc.)

The two weeks break in Scotland was bliss for me - peaceful, quiet, dark at nights. I was able to catalogue all my digital photos and start playing at last with my digital design programme. I also read my way through 8 Terry Pratchett Discworld books and we got to see a couple of castles we've been meaning to look at over the last few years, Craigievar and Crathies.  I also had the opportunity to visit some craft shops, Simply Create in Alford, Lainesworld in Insch, and Meg's Attic in Banchory. Internet access was restricted to when we were at the gliding club in Aboyne and so I had a great chill-out time - much needed after being on the go for so long, a wonderful contrast.

Pity about the weather though; my husband and the other glider pilot with whom we share a cottage only managed to get about 10 hours flying over the whole fortnight. Last year they got in at least 8 days, with 3 - 4 hours each time. This time they had only about 5 days when the weather allowed flying, and even that was only for about an hour or two. So rather disappointing for them....

As is usually the case, the first week went by quite leisurely, and then before we knew it, it was time for the 8 hour journey home. Once home I had the 'delight' of a fortnight's washing and ironing to do and on the Monday morning I was feeling far from cheerful as I started on the second load of ironing before going out to work, knowing a third load was waiting for me when I got back! I was in a right grumpy mood and even my work colleagues commented I wasn't my usual cheerful self. Not only did I not want to have to be back at work, it also felt as if I was coming down with a cold, or some sort of virus.

Later that evening, having polished off the ironing, and making dinner and still feeling really brassed off, and also a bit throaty, I decided it might be a good idea to apply a little EFT to the situation. SUDS had to be pretty much 10/10!

Even though I feel a right grump today; I really did not want to have to go back to work, I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway.

Even though I've got a really big case of PHB (post holiday blues), worse than usual because I was enjoying the break so much, and it makes me really grumpy and brassed off, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, and all my negative feelings.

Even though I wish I could still be on holiday, and not have to do all the washing and ironing, and cooking the meals, and I don't want to go to work and it looks like I'm brewing up a cold or something to get out of going to work, I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself and allow all this negativity to flow away from me.

I tapped around all the short-cut points: feel a right grump, don't want to have to go to work, all the washing and ironing, goes on forever, bad case of PHB, brewing up a cold, this throaty feeling, feeling tired and brassed off, want to be back in Scotland, want the peace and quiet, feeling really brassed off, know I'm being silly, know I'm being childish, don't want to have to start on the grind again....

Feeling somewhat better now, starting to yawn and the eyes were beginning to water I changed to some more positive affirmations. only feeling bad because I had a really good time, enjoyed the peace to re-charge the batteries, don't have to rush straight into things, can choose to pace myself better, the washing and ironing can wait, what's with the cold symptoms?, been away for a fortnight - want to get to work to earn some money, I know I really enjoy working with my clients, don't need to make myself ill, choosing to let go, choosing to go with the flow, choosing to retain the peace and quiet, choosing to feel good....

This felt a good place to stop. I felt much more cheerful and the SUDS were practically zeroed.

The next day I felt far more positive and upbeat, and the grumpiness appeared to have vanished. Not only did I go to work with a smile, but also managed to get more washing and ironing done (the weather kindly co-operating), and in fact finished. On the Wednesday I received some good news work-wise, twice, and even the starter motor and the battery going on the car didn't bother me unduly. "Do you have a caravan or trailer on your car?" asked the AA man when I phoned for assistance. Not THIS week, thankfully. If it had happened while we were away, it could have been interesting, stuck out in the Styx.... So there's always something to be grateful for.

And this weekend I finished tidying up some loose ends on the websites,  and got the house cleaned so seem pretty much totally on top of things -  at least until the next project comes along.... :-)

EFT tapping - such a useful thing to know about! As Gary Craig says - Try it on everything!

Quado's Garden - Inspirational Messages and Meditations

Hi everyone,

Quite a while ago I came across a website called Power Animals Unleashed, run by Carrie Hart. I have an interest in Shamanism and when I feel the need to enter the "Enchanted Forest" and click on the spot that feels right, it is not really that surprising how often the Power Animal that comes through can be spot on.

The sister site, Quado's Garden is a particular gem. I find that the messages that Carrie has channelled from  the spiritual Being she knows as Quado are indeed "loving and transformational" and once again, they are often astonishingly appropriate for a given situation. "They are all about oneness and connection and about becoming our best selves."

I usually visit Quado's Garden at least once a day, and 'sit on the bench', go quietly within to  find my centre, before drifting to the azalea for the day. If a particular issue is on the go, I may visit again and see what comes up for me.

From a connection point of view, more recently, when working with clients over the telephone, with their permission, I have started to end the session by clicking on the site. On practically every occasion, the message has been amazingly relevant to what has gone on during the session.

The "Little Prayer for Today" at the foot of each page is gloriously affirming, and in many cases can be incorporated into the EFT tapping, once you feel you have cleared the negative aspect of an issue.

And the rose photos that accompany each message, they are beautiful! Roses are my favourite flower, and Carrie's garden must be a lovely place indeed, and smell like Heaven!

Please do go and pay a visit; see what message Quado has for you, and bask in the sense of peace and love. And don't forget to visit the Meditations page. There are both short versions, of about 10 minutes for daily use, and longer ones of about 20 - 30 minutes duration for those occasions you find more time to be at peace and meditate.

Edited 29th and 31st July - although Quado's Garden was up and running when I posted this, it has been coming up as parked for the last day or so - I fear I am missing my daily "fix" so hope it returns soon. However, Power Animals Unleashed is still accessible. I have contacted Carrie Hart and she tells me there has been a problem at the web-server that has temporarily disabled the site and that it should be back up and running soon.

Bright Blessings,
Karen

Favourite Reiki Websites

Hi everyone,

Back in March I put together a list of my favourite EFT websites. Today I'm putting a list of my favourite Reiki websites up so that people can go and have a .look at them if they haven't aleady found them. There are no doubt many more websites and blogs out there but these are the ones I enjoy looking at, and find that useful information can be found on them. In most cases I am also signed up to any newsletters associated with the sites.

Reiki Evolution  This is the website of my Reiki Master Taggart King. There is a lot to browse and I'd particularly recommend the Reiki Articles page.

The International Center For Reiki Training - another site full of information from William Lee Rand and another long list of articles to read through.

The Reiki Threshold  - another info rich site, with even more articles.

The Reiki Digest - a blog on Reiki - "A regular roundup of news about Reiki from around the world".

James Deacon's Reiki Pages - amongst other things, contains some interesting freely downloadable eBooks.

The Center for Reiki Research, including Reiki in Hospitals You need to sign up for this, but it is free, and there are Reiki research study summaries.

There are a number of other Reiki websites that I have bookmarked but these tend to be websites for individuals, more of a shop front for their services, such as the Reiki section of my own website.

If you know of any good Reiki sites you would like to share then please leave details in the comments.

Vitamin D update

Hi everyone,
Vitamin D seems to be in the news again - "Pregnant women 'must take vitamin D supplements'". It's interesting to me because the article states that "the Department of Health advises pregnant women to ensure they receive a certain level of vitamin D - 10 micrograms per day." That is 400 IU of vitamin D. Compare that with the article on the Grassroots Health site - "Researchers recommend pregnant women take 4,000 IU vitamin D a day."
You may recall that late last year the OH and I decided to have our vitamin D status checked (see here) and had our first test results back to use as a baseline. The OH came in at 28 ng/mLand I was 24 ng/mL. According to the information on the Grassroots Health site and the Vitamin D Council these figures are below the lower end of the accepted range, between 40 and 50 ng/mL (100 - 125 nmol/L).
We have both been taking a 50,000 IU vitamin D3 capsule once a week since October last year and in March we had a second test kit arrive for our first follow-up. We didn't actually get around to sending it off until April time, but within the fortnight we had the results emailed through.
50,000 IU per week equates to just over 7000 IU per day. The OH's updated test gave a reading of 64 ng/mL; mine was 84 ng/mL. I suspect that my higher figure might have been due to the fact that I have spent so much time out in the garden in recent months and the weather was fine enough for me to mostly be wearing short sleeved tee shirts rather than being wrapped up in clothing. This means I was getting plenty of sun exposure and starting to build up quite a nice tan, without getting burnt.
However, we were both really rather pleased that our vitamin D status has improved so much. Unfortunately the OH can't say that he has seen much improvement in blood glucose control, but other factors have also been in play, namely the last few months being quite stressful work-wise, which does little for balancing blood sugar control. It will be interesting to see how things progress from here on.
The OH will probably stay on the current regime and see what the next test shows up. Because I spend time out in the sun quite often, I'm happy to cut back to a dose every other week, until the autumn months come around. We will do another test in September/October time, and thereafter tweak things to suit the results.
Some people may be concerned that these figures indicate toxic levels of vitamin D. The Vitamin D Council have an article -The Truth About Vitamin D Toxicity wherein (Professor Reinhold Vieth Ph.D) reports human toxicity probably begins to occur after chronic daily consumption of approximately 40,000 IU/day (100 of the 400 IU capsules). So our 3,500 to 7000 IU/day aren't likely to be causing any problems. Especially when you consider the body makes about 10,000 IU vitamin D from just about 15 - 20 minutes exposure to the sun.
John Jacob Cannell MD recommends the following:
"... if you have little UVB exposure, my advice is as follows:
healthy children under the age of 1 years should take 1,000 IU vitamin D3 per day
over the age of 1, 1,000 IU vitamin D3 per every 25 pounds of body weight per day.
Well adults and adolescents should take 5,000 IU vitamin D3 per day.
Around 2–3 months later have a 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test, either through ZRT or your doctor.
Start supplementing with the vitamin D before you have the blood test. Then adjust your dose so your 25(OH)D level is between 50–80 ng/ml (125–200 nmol/L), summer and winter. But remember, these are conservative dosage recommendations. Most people who avoid the sun—and virtually all dark-skinned people—will have to increase their dose once they find their blood level is still low, even after two months of the above dosage, especially in the winter. Some people may feel more comfortable ordering the blood test before they start adequate doses of vitamin D. We understand. Test as often as you feel the need to, just remember, no one can get toxic on the doses recommended above and some people will need even more."
The  OH has Type 2 diabetes; I'm on the cusp of menopause, and thus at an increased risk for osteoporosis and breast cancer the older I get. My reading of the available literature that is coming out suggests that keeping the vitamin D levels up where they are at the moment is far more likely to prove beneficial than harmful. Just so long that I don't need to supplement vitamin D because I've become pregnant!!!

Apologies for script size and density - although using 'normal' size in Blogger it is coming out rather small for some reason, so this is the best to make it readable for all. :-(

Unexpected Prickly Visitor in the Garden

Hi everybody,
This is a "AKOE" posting - an "All Kinds of Everything" entry. A couple of nights ago I was looking out of the kitchen window as I began to rather belatedly prepare our evening meal, having lost track of time on the PC.
To my utmost delight I spotted a hedgehog, quite a large one about 8 inches or so long, wandering across the lawn. A quick call to the OH, and we trotted out quietly to see if we could get a closer look.
It was about 8.20pm so still very light, which was why I was rather surprised to see our little visitor. In the past we've heard them snuffling about, and what a racket they can make, just about or after dusk, but this was still pretty much broad daylight. The OH had seen a hedgehog out on the front an evening or two before when he came home from an overtime job but that was in the dark. We are assuming this might be the same one.
I suddenly realized I should get the camera, which of course was upstairs as I had been downloading some photos earlier, so by the time I got back out Hedgehog had disappeared into the borders.
Spot the hedgehog in our wildlife area.                                  Ah, there you are!

The OH suggested giving it some cat food and went to get a pouch and a dish. The first offering went down very well, and according to the OH Hedgehog sat down in the dish when s/he'd finished. He gave it some more and it munched away as he managed to get some photos.
We went in then to have our own meal, and watch a programme on TV. About 21.40 the OH went out again and came back to report that Hedgehog was back on the grass, so off we went again, with the camera. I'd forgotten that we have a video element to it and so decided to give it a go. It's not the best light at all, the photos below are clearer because the flash went off, but it's nice to have a little record of our encounter. This is the first time I've uploaded anything to You Tube so I don't know how well this will turn out.

Hedgehog was all curled up at first, but then the little head unfurled, the nose quivered in an "Ah, Bisto!" way and the snout went into the dish. Pyewacket came along and looked disgusted that we were feeding cat food to a hedgehog, and once Hedgehog had finished, of s/he wandered back into the border and we left it in peace.

We had a look for Hedgehog the next evening but no sign at the time, although the next evening I spotted our neighbours bent over one of their borders for a few minutes so wonder if they'd spotted it.

It's lovely when wildlife wonders through the garden, especially when you are present to see it. Thank you, little Hedgehog for the privilege.

Karen

Hatsurei-ho meditation in the summer garden

Hi everybody,
I thought it was about time I wrote a Reiki post, as they have been rather few and far between.
One of the really nice things about having tidied up and re-done the back garden is that I can now go and sit outside in this marvellous weather we are having this year and carry out my  Reiki and other meditations in the fresh air and sunshine, amongst the natural elements.
It actually helps me to carry out the Hatsurei meditation more regularly than otherwise (I do make a point of carrying out the Reiki self-healing meditation pretty much every day, without fail) as it gives me something to do as I sit, other than reading my books.
The Hatsurei Ho meditation seems to have its origins in Tendai Buddhism, and have only really been known about in the West since the autumn of 1999, when Hiroshi Doi, a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai revealed these techniques. The Hatsurei-ho meditation is described here. Ideally you can spend 10-15 minutes every day carrying out Hatsurei to keep your energies balanced and allow harmony throughout your daily life.
This is more or less the version I was taught by Taggart King of Reiki Evolution; I add the Gokai sansho, repeating the 5 Principles 3 times, and being a Reiki Master I can include the Self-Empowerment aspect just after Seishin Toitsu. This is the time that I would use the Reiju empowerment if I was working with a Reiki student.
I sit in a garden chair, with bare feet on the grass to connect to the Earth.  My way of doing things is to count my breathing: 1 - in, 2 - out, 3 - in, 4 - out, etc. This is especially useful when sitting out in the sun as it allows me to gauge how long I have taken, so I don't over-cook. :-) Oddly enough, it doesn't get in the way of the experience. A 20 minute session is usually the result of 40 breaths per section, and I can make it longer, or shorter to suit the circumstances.
Yesterday's session was particularly lovely. Perhaps it was because the Summer Solstice is an important festival for me, and it was so pleasant to be receiving a "solar massage" as I meditated? With eyes closed I could feel soft grass under my bare feet; smell the beautiful scent of Honeysuckle, Rose and Valerian and hear the birdsong and buzz of insects; feel the heat of the sun on my body; and occasionally there was the sound of a splosh from the pond beside me as the frogs gallivanted about. Surrounded by the 4 elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, breathing in and breathing out the Universal Energy that is Reiki. One of those blissful moments when you feel so glad to be alive and aware of all going on around you, connected with all Life.
I did in fact to go on to another meditation, specifically for the Summer Solstice. I went to the "place" I call my Sanctuary. Bathed in all this beautiful natural energy it seemed that I was effectively receiving a solar massage. It came to me that the heat and the light were seeping into my muscles and bones, loosening and relaxing any knots of physical tension and allowing the release of any energy blockages that I might be carrying with me from childhood, the ‘writing on my wall’ stuff, all transformed into Love and Light and Heat.
It felt so very good that I started an EMDR tapping in process that I learned about at the EFT Mentoring Group day I attended on Saturday – this seemed an excellent resource to tap in and be able to draw upon when I need it. I was telling the OH about the tapping in process yesterday evening and just thinking about the afternoon’s meditation made me smile broadly and feel very happy. So I think that the technique is going to become a keeper, and I must try and get hold of the book. (Hmmm, I wonder what the neighbours think if they see me in the garden .... not that it bothers me! :-) )
Interestingly enough, in my Inbox today was the regular newsletter from EFT Master, Carol Look (Issue 153 if you want to find it on her website). It started:
Quiet, Please...
**********************
When was the last time you were quiet enough
to really feel your pulse, to notice the rhythm of your body,
and hear your heart's messages?

This is one aspect of life that I do freely allow and try to make at least a few minutes every day to go within and see what floats up. This is why I think the daily Reiki Self-Healing meditation is so important because it allows that quiet time. And if you have problems allowing yourself that quiet time, then Carol has an EFT tapping script that can help you to overcome that issue.
And you know, you don't have to have been attuned or empowered to Reiki to give Hatsurei a go. Just try it for yourself, just to get a taste of what Reiki itself might give you. If nothing else it will allow you to find that quiet within.
If you are already a Reiki channel, and you carry out Hatsurei anytime on a Friday, then you can always tune in to the distant Reiju empowerment I send out to any who wish to partake of it on that day, helping to strengthen your connection to Reiki and bringing you what you need at that time. During Seishin Toitsu, just say to yourself whenever you feel it's right to do so, "I'm ready to receive Karen's Reiju empowerment now" and sit and let the energy flow. When you feel it's time to finish, just resume Seishin Toitsu, and finish as normal.

Bright Blessings,
Karen

"OPERATION: Emotional Freedom - The Answer" ... a new EFT DVD

Hi Everyone,
On the 25th June last year I posted this about the first UK Armed Forces Day, and how EFT could perhaps have a place in helping with PTSD that many veterans are left with. As the second  UK Armed Forces Day approaches on June 26th it is interesting to see this letter from producer/director Eric Huurre, posted in Gary Craig's latest newsletter as he tidies up his retirement process.
Letter from Eric Huurre regarding the new EFT for Veterans film
More than two years have gone into compiling the feature length documentary OPERATION: Emotional Freedom – The Answer. Full details and how to order the film/DVD can be found at www.operation-emotionalfreedom.com .
This detailed investigation of post traumatic stress in combat veterans is about to be released into a climate unchanged from the time we started on this project.  The problem remains rampant while conventional therapies still provide little or no relief.   Hopefully, that will change with this extraordinary film.
Dozens of the best and most respected names in energy psychology and EFT contributed their time and efforts for therapy sessions and hundreds of interviews, tests and follow-up research. Those who have seen previews say this is the most extensive film portrayal of EFT in action to date.
I was graced with the opportunity to work with a very special group of volunteer veterans and EFT practitioners in this story. I don’t believe any of us were prepared for what this project would reveal to us and to others over time.  It was extraordinary. In our initial conversations about doing a feature length film, Gary asked for just one thing, ”provide the audience with irrefutable evidence of what we can do with this technique.” We did just that.
This effort is more than a film. It stands as a testimony to EFT; a landmark example for the future care and support for veterans and their families; and a unique insight into the nature of trauma and how to overcome it for anyone. You can learn more about the people behind this project as well obtaining your own DVD copy, or view on demand screening at the film’s official web site: www.operation-emotionalfreedom.com
Gary, my personal thanks. You were truly my own and this film’s inspiration. Blessings to you in your retirement. You leave all of us better for what you brought to light.
Eric Huurre
Producer/director

I have watched the video clips; obviously they are the merest taster of what it is all about but it evidently builds on what has gone before, mentioned in my previous post.  For those who  doubt that such a strange technique can have any effect, it seems to me that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, or as the gentleman says in the clips, having been a  big skeptic about the use of EFT for this, he is now very enthusiastic because of one thing, called "RESULTS" . I shall be adding this DVD to my EFT collection as soon as I can.
We have to remember that EFT and other energy psychology methods are in their relative infancy, and a body of research has yet to be compiled in sufficient amounts to satisfy the skeptics. Research requires funding and unlike the pharmaceutical industries, and their financial backers, who can make big money out of their research results with new drugs, etc. these processes are ones that anyone can apply to themselves, so it's more likely that funding comes from more altruistic or philanthropical sources who are not in it purely for the financial gain, but rather for the benefits to mankind.
Placebo? Wouldn't we expect a placebo effect from what they are already doing - surely they want to get well? Time will tell, but these veterans have usually been through drug and therapy regimes and are still no better off, yet a relatively few EFT sessions bring about huge beneficial changes, for the individuals and their families.  And that is not even mentioning the enormous amount of money it could save various health and social service budgets!
This is something that will be of great interest to keep an eye on over the next few years.

Bright Blessings,
Karen

Is my garden somehow related to the Tardis? ... and update on Gary Craig's emofree website

Hi everyone,

Heaven's above, where has the time gone! So long since I last posted. So much for the intention of posting at least once a week! "Even though I am lousy at posting regular blog updates, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, and hope to do better in future." :-)

It has to be said though - I've become convinced that my back garden must somehow be related to Dr Who's Tardis, so much bigger than it looks. :-) I lost count of the hours I spent out there when it reached about 70 or 80. All told, it's got to have taken me more than 100 hours to get done over the past 2-3 months  I can't believe there was so much to do. If I'd known at the onset what was involved, it's most likely it would never have got started. Now, however, the heroic work is over, just the routine on-going maintenance stuff, and I've actually been able to just sit out there, in the sunshine, reading my book and thinking how grand it all is, listening to the birdsong and the bees humming away. I even spotted a dragonfly today...

The garden now - somewhat neater and slightly easier maintenance

I've also taken quite a few photos of the plants as they grow, as the hope is to use them later down the line to create digital backgrounds and  brushes for my design programmes. At least that way I know there is absolutely no chance of causing offence copyright-wise.

A lot of time has been spent as well on the PC, giving that a good old overhaul. Many consider me to be a very organized person, but it is surprising how much stuff had been duplicated and was all over the place. Now however, it is all pared down and filed neatly away (although there has been a lot of use of the 'Find' facility when things seem to have totally hidden away) and the OH has been able to move something around to give me more space on the C disk, which was running extremely low.

I've had a little fun making up some virtual CD covers for the mp3 ambient nature sounds downloads that I am hoping to put on my websites -  a mix of creativity/design for a  practical application. Over the next few weeks there are plans to revamp my websites, as I now have the latest update for my website programme. So keep an eye on them - www.EFT-Reiki.com and www.EFT-not-HRT.com.

Talking of websites, Gary Craig has sent out a newsletter announcing that the Emofree.com website will be taken down finally tomorrow, Saturday 5th June. Fortunately, we will not be losing the vast amount of articles that it contained, nor the free videos, as these have now been transferred to www.eftuniverse.com, a site run by Dawson Church, "the man who is responsible for our growing body of essential EFT research" as Gary put it. (Dawson is the author of "The Genie in Your Genes", a fascinating book which I'd recommend to anyone who is interested in how our thoughts, emotions and beliefs can have physiological effects upon our bodies and how energy psychology methods can influence these processes.) It is great news to know that this amazing archive of articles of the anecdotal usage of EFT remains freely available to view - it would have been such a loss otherwise.

Unfortunately, Gary is not planning on reinstating the EFT DVD libraries, but the new site does have the DVDs available for rental, and you can also sign up to receive a regular newsletter. It is well worth a visit, especially if you have never been there before.

Gary ended his newsletter saying " My retirement is now a reality.  The past 15 years resulted in an extraordinary journey for all of us and, with support from the vast majority of you, our EFT groundswell has been impressive.  I will watch with interest to see what you do with it from here." Here's hoping that Gary has a long happy retirement ahead of him, with many thanks and best wishes to him.

With luck and a fair wind I may be able to catch up a little on my postings. There are a number of topics tucked into my blogging folder so hopefully I'll be able to intersperse the mundane internet work with some further musings.

Bright Blessings,
Karen

Therapeutic Gardening ... and an Unexpected Parcel...

Hi everyone,
I can't believe how fast time is flying by - almost halfway through April already. It's been a busy time this last couple of weeks  in the back garden. It looked a real mess, and having found some photos of it looking lovely a few years ago, when looking for a flower photo to do a craft project, I've realized that it's way beyond time for a total freshen up and revamp.

The garden back when it looked decent.

It's really quite good to be out in the garden, in the sunshine (yay - at last!), listening to the birds and the bees as I've dug out beds  and started on the tidy up. Looks like it will need a fair few packs of seeds when I've finished, although some areas are going to be gravelled for easier maintenance.

It's been a frustrating few weeks recently, one way and another, with a number of issues all coming together at once. There has been quite a bit of meridian tapping going on to help me through (e.g. Even though I am incredibly frustrated by ________, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Even though I am so upset that I have let myself get so bothered by this/these situation(s), I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself and allow myself to move forward in a more positive mode....).  Spending 10 hours deep digging and forking over the beds in the garden over the last three days has  proved to be extremely therapeutic, helping to earth any remaining negativity about the issues bugging me. One, I think, I sincerely hope, is sorted; another may still take a little time to settle, but is moving forward, very slowly, but moving forward none-the-less.
It's also good to note that EFT comes in very useful for helping to relieve the aches and pains of muscles that are wondering what the heck you are doing to them after such a long time. Even though my hips and thighs are aching and protesting, I deeply and completely....... If I spent longer on it, I'd probably clear it totally but I'm more than happy to get SUDS down from 7-8 to 2-3 and then get on with other things.
Other things I am trying to get on with include getting into digital craft design so that I can make my own craft papers up for personal use, and perhaps, if there is enough interest, to sell online as a little sideline. Early days yet, and part of the recent frustrations is buying a design package to manipulate images that isn't working as simply and easily as it promises to do. Hopefully,  after many telephone calls and emails, an upgrade in the very near future will resolve issues that I and others are having with this software. In the meantime I'm trying to make time to have a play with and get to know my way around a drawing package the OH bought for me - otherwise it's learning about PaintShop Pro and lessons from my niece.
So plenty to be getting on with......
I've taken it as a good sign that  a parcel arrived for me this morning, totally out of the blue. What could be inside such a bulky package? I'm not expecting anything. When opened, it revealed two sets of Fiskars scissors, small and large, and a paper trimmer. ????? Then the penny dropped. For the first time ever, I'd actually won one of the give-aways in a craft magazine (Simply Cards and Papercraft)! This has really brightened my day and my outlook.
Now I just have to see if I can work up enough motivation for another hour of digging in the garden - hmmm, perhaps tomorrow, after work. Got some crafting to do now :-D.
Bright Blessings,
Karen
