Hatsurei-ho meditation in the summer garden

Hi everybody,
I thought it was about time I wrote a Reiki post, as they have been rather few and far between.
One of the really nice things about having tidied up and re-done the back garden is that I can now go and sit outside in this marvellous weather we are having this year and carry out my  Reiki and other meditations in the fresh air and sunshine, amongst the natural elements.
It actually helps me to carry out the Hatsurei meditation more regularly than otherwise (I do make a point of carrying out the Reiki self-healing meditation pretty much every day, without fail) as it gives me something to do as I sit, other than reading my books.
The Hatsurei Ho meditation seems to have its origins in Tendai Buddhism, and have only really been known about in the West since the autumn of 1999, when Hiroshi Doi, a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai revealed these techniques. The Hatsurei-ho meditation is described here. Ideally you can spend 10-15 minutes every day carrying out Hatsurei to keep your energies balanced and allow harmony throughout your daily life.
This is more or less the version I was taught by Taggart King of Reiki Evolution; I add the Gokai sansho, repeating the 5 Principles 3 times, and being a Reiki Master I can include the Self-Empowerment aspect just after Seishin Toitsu. This is the time that I would use the Reiju empowerment if I was working with a Reiki student.
I sit in a garden chair, with bare feet on the grass to connect to the Earth.  My way of doing things is to count my breathing: 1 - in, 2 - out, 3 - in, 4 - out, etc. This is especially useful when sitting out in the sun as it allows me to gauge how long I have taken, so I don't over-cook. :-) Oddly enough, it doesn't get in the way of the experience. A 20 minute session is usually the result of 40 breaths per section, and I can make it longer, or shorter to suit the circumstances.
Yesterday's session was particularly lovely. Perhaps it was because the Summer Solstice is an important festival for me, and it was so pleasant to be receiving a "solar massage" as I meditated? With eyes closed I could feel soft grass under my bare feet; smell the beautiful scent of Honeysuckle, Rose and Valerian and hear the birdsong and buzz of insects; feel the heat of the sun on my body; and occasionally there was the sound of a splosh from the pond beside me as the frogs gallivanted about. Surrounded by the 4 elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, breathing in and breathing out the Universal Energy that is Reiki. One of those blissful moments when you feel so glad to be alive and aware of all going on around you, connected with all Life.
I did in fact to go on to another meditation, specifically for the Summer Solstice. I went to the "place" I call my Sanctuary. Bathed in all this beautiful natural energy it seemed that I was effectively receiving a solar massage. It came to me that the heat and the light were seeping into my muscles and bones, loosening and relaxing any knots of physical tension and allowing the release of any energy blockages that I might be carrying with me from childhood, the ‘writing on my wall’ stuff, all transformed into Love and Light and Heat.
It felt so very good that I started an EMDR tapping in process that I learned about at the EFT Mentoring Group day I attended on Saturday – this seemed an excellent resource to tap in and be able to draw upon when I need it. I was telling the OH about the tapping in process yesterday evening and just thinking about the afternoon’s meditation made me smile broadly and feel very happy. So I think that the technique is going to become a keeper, and I must try and get hold of the book. (Hmmm, I wonder what the neighbours think if they see me in the garden .... not that it bothers me! :-) )
Interestingly enough, in my Inbox today was the regular newsletter from EFT Master, Carol Look (Issue 153 if you want to find it on her website). It started:
Quiet, Please...
**********************
When was the last time you were quiet enough
to really feel your pulse, to notice the rhythm of your body,
and hear your heart's messages?

This is one aspect of life that I do freely allow and try to make at least a few minutes every day to go within and see what floats up. This is why I think the daily Reiki Self-Healing meditation is so important because it allows that quiet time. And if you have problems allowing yourself that quiet time, then Carol has an EFT tapping script that can help you to overcome that issue.
And you know, you don't have to have been attuned or empowered to Reiki to give Hatsurei a go. Just try it for yourself, just to get a taste of what Reiki itself might give you. If nothing else it will allow you to find that quiet within.
If you are already a Reiki channel, and you carry out Hatsurei anytime on a Friday, then you can always tune in to the distant Reiju empowerment I send out to any who wish to partake of it on that day, helping to strengthen your connection to Reiki and bringing you what you need at that time. During Seishin Toitsu, just say to yourself whenever you feel it's right to do so, "I'm ready to receive Karen's Reiju empowerment now" and sit and let the energy flow. When you feel it's time to finish, just resume Seishin Toitsu, and finish as normal.

Bright Blessings,
Karen
