2011 AAMET EFT Gathering, Ilkley, West Yorkshire

Hi everyone,

I have just got around to registering to attend the 2011 EFT Northern Gathering to be held on the weekend of the 28th and 29th January, in Ilkley, West Yorkshire at the Craiglands Hotel.

This will be the third year for this event, and as the EFT Events website states, the weekend provides "two inspiring days for the European EFT tapping community plus whole day specialist workshops. Come and enjoy presentations, demonstrations, networking, tapping and sharing ideas."

This is the first time that I have been able to attend, and I am really looking forward to it, although there is a slight feeling of trepidation as I am also giving one of the presentations on the Sunday morning, on the use of EFT for Menopause, another first for me.

You can find more details of all the presenters and presentations here,  and make a booking if you are interested. Additional workshops are being held on the bracketing Friday and Monday and there looks to be quite a diversity of topics that will be covered.

If I need to, I could pick up some tips from Sean Grey on using EFT for performing anxiety (:-)); Claire Hayes' presentation on Autism Parent Support should be of interest as I work with people with autism; Frances Goodall's presentation - CFS/ME Spiritual Emergency might provide some useful hints for dealing with fibromyalgia as I know a few people who suffer from this complaint, which is similar to CFS; these are just some of the presentations on offer.

It all looks like excellent value and a full weekend of EFT tapping should be just the ticket. Certainly the feedback from last year sounds good, and I know some people who attended and gave presentations, who have all said what a great time it was for all concerned.

So perhaps I might see some of you there. :-)

Bright Blessings,
Karen

Stop the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive - Sign the petition

Hi everyone,

I had a newsletter arrive in my inbox this evening, asking for help to save our right to access to medicinal herbs, and other natural supplements. Heidi Stevenson of Gaia-Health.com has set up a petition which you can view here.

Bearing in mind that these gentle natural therapies, if applied correctly, actually have fewer adverse side effects than most modern drugs, (and the fact that insurance to practice is relatively inexpensive, reflecting this safety factor) it seems only fair that we should retain the choice of how our bodies are treated, and what goes into them.

If you are interested in preserving our rights to choose the way we look after our health, especially if we prefer the natural route over the allopathic route (and the experiences of my family and me with doctors and the 'blessings' of modern medicine leaves me very jaundiced and cynical indeed!) then please consider hopping over to have a look and to add your signature to the petition.

Bright Blessings,
Karen

Vitamin D and Autism

Hi everyone,

A recent newsletter from Dr John Cannell from the Vitamin D council site made for very interesting reading, about using vitamin D in therapeutic doses for a three and a half year old child with autism - it seems to have had a very marked positive effect. (Yet Another Autism Case Report)There are other articles in the archive and I post links here if anyone wants to go and have a look at them.

More Letters on Autism
New Harvard Paper on Autism
Vitamin D Theory of Autism
A Mother, Her Autistic Son, and Vitamin D
The Tragedy of Autism and the Promise of Vitamin D

This might seem an odd topic to post on here,  an AKOE (All Kinds of Everything) one, but part of my work is carrying out aromatherapy sessions on adults with learning disabilities. Quite a number of my clients have varying degrees of autism. And from previous posts (here, here and here ) it can be seen that I have quite an interest in vitamin D; in fact, thinking about it, we're probably due for another re-test about now. So, together, they catch my eye.

I can appreciate that it is not straight forward and simple, dealing with autism, and there can be many complex factors contributing towards the cause. But it appears that the use of vitamin D in much higher doses than we are used to considering can make considerable inroads into turning around some cases. It is inexpensive, and as long as the child is monitored for its vitamin D status to ensure correct dosage to achieve adequate 25(0)HD levels it also seems quite safe. And what other options are there, in many cases?

But then, simple and inexpensive interventions don't make for big bucks for the pharmaceutical industry, I suppose, so they prefer the benefits of vitamin D to be kept as quiet as possible (or is that me being a tad too cynical again?).

If even a few children can make a 'recovery' from autism by the means of simple supplementation, for them and their families it can be life changing. Surely that should be the prime motivation, and if there are those who say it can't work, then let further research be carried out to put this theory to the test. Besides, the raft of research surfacing recently suggests that vitamin D deficiency can lead to all kinds of other health issues so ensuring adequate supplies can surely only be a good thing?

The people I work with may not benefit from such an intervention as they are much older, but it does make me wonder if their vitamin D levels were checked, and probably found deficient, and supplementation took place to bring them up into the 70 - 100ng/mL (or even up to 150ng/mL from what I read) if it would not have some positive effect on them as well?
