Reiki Attunements v. Empowerments

Hi Everyone,

An interesting post has appeared today on Taggart King's Reiki Evolution blog about Reiki attunements and empowerments.

Taggart is my Reiki Master in the Japanese tradition.  I originally trained in Reiki in the western tradition with Reiki Master Barry Mapp, and was taught the use of attunements. Barry favoured the more simple version, and I found it worked perfectly well for my students and me in the years between 2001 and 2006.

In 2006, when I re-did my Reiki Masters in the Japanese tradition, I learned about the Reiju empowerments. I now use Reiju empowerments in all my Reiki workshops, although I do also teach the western tradition attunements at Master Level, as an integration between the Japanese and western traditions.

The empowerments feel so much more natural to me; they have a flow to them that is lacking in the more mechanical (not to say complicated) application of the western attunements, and are certainly a lot easier to carry out.

I personally am more aware of the flow of energy through me as I carry out the empowerments, possibly because I am not trying to remember what comes next.

I have also noticed, as Taggart says in his post, they seem to more strongly enhance the recipient's intuition and sensitivity to the Reiki energy.

After their workshops, my students are able to tap into distant Reiju empowerments that I send out each Friday, should they wish to do so. I certainly encourage them to do this because for me, and I hope for them, Reiki is a way of life, rather than something I just do.

Setting aside a little time each week to receive the empowerment, plus spending time on self healing and daily Reiki practices (Hatsurei ho) is a wonderful way to look after yourself in this oh so busy age.

Taggart's post goes on to comment a little on some of the Reiki nonsense that crops up now and then - the "claptrap" as he calls it. I personally tend to use the term "spherical objects".

One of the ones I have come across is that you should never give Reiki to someone on a couch with metal legs - it must be wood; otherwise the energy runs to earth!

Have you come across any interesting supposed "no-nos"? Drop us a line in the comment box if you have any to share.

Bright Blessings,
Karen
